Ontario Incandescent Light Bulb Ban

Incandescent Light Bulb Ban in Ontario

TORONTO - Ontario residents will have to switch off all their incandescent light bulbs within two years, before the end of 2014. Ontario province is moving to match an earlier decision by the Canada Federal Government to ban all 100 and 75 watt incandescent bulbs by January 2014. All 40 and 60 watt bulbs will have to be phased out by the end of 2014, and replaced with more energy-efficient alternatives such as LED light bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs( Already Ontario Residents have to pay an Environment Protection Fee when purchasing fluorescent lights and bring fluorescent lights to hazardous waste sites for proper disposal). Ontario requires public sector institutions such as schools and hospitals to start reporting their energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, for encouraging the use of Energy efficient LED light bulbs.
