Off-grid Inverters

OFF-Grid systems tend to be used in remote locations away from an utility grid or where one does not exist close by. There are several types of off-grid systems, some of which runs with the utility grid and some with backup generators. The purpose of an off-grid system is to provide power where it doesn't exist or supplement power usage when cost of energy is high. Energy costs is usually high during the middle of the day and lower during the nights. Before most of the systems were off-grid system but as many of the barriers to interconnection have been addressed through the adoption of harmonized standards and codes, grid-tie systems have seen an increased in use. The batteries within makes the off-grid system more costly to maintain when compared to grid-tie systems.

There are currently no incentives for the purchase of off-grid systems within Ontario.
